International workshop

We held a workshop on “Variation in the expression of space and motion within and across languages” on December 11th, 2012.

Aim of the workshop: There are currently a number of more or less distinct research efforts directed at establishing typologies of space and motion that go beyond those of Talmy (2000) and Slobin (2004) both empirically and theoretically, by

  1. using new elicitation methods,
  2. extending the scope of languages,
  3. considering motion in relation to categories such as time, aspect, deixis and posture,
  4. considering factors such as individual invitation as well as variation between language dialects and between closely related languages,
  5. analyses of co-verbal gestures.

The goal of the workshop is to contribute to more contact and collaboration between such efforts.
